Ever since implementing the Bobby McGee walk/run protocol, recovery has improved dramatically. Today capped off a 76 mile week. There's no question it's working. But it's still a bit of a mystery why it works so well. The walk breaks aren't that long. For example, I was walking for less than 6 minutes in today's 80 minute workout. And...the overall pace of the workout is faster than it used to be when I did a recovery day without any walk breaks.
My friend Bob has been doing the walk/run bit when he's with me and has similar feedback. Neither of us have a clue as to the reasons for its success...but we are nonetheless excited by the possibilities.
To be honest...I've never cared all that much why things work...only that they do. At some point, they'll prove or figure out why it works and then people will feel free to do it. In the meantime...it's like being let in on a secret.
