Noticing that as I get older I need to be more and more careful of excess carbohydrate intake. Sugary treats, white flour, pastas, even grains take a large toll on my energy and performance. Sometimes the effect is quite dramatic.
Have resolved to become more "fat adapted." I've gone through periods where I have done better job of developing my ability to burn fat...both through exercise and diet...and these were invariably the times I performed my best.
This past weekend, ultrarunning newcomer Zach Bitter set a new 100 mile American record in 11:47...7:04 per mile pace!! He puts a lot of effort in being fat adapted. You can read a bit about his training and diet at his blog here.
