I've been training a bit differently lately...much easier in general...because of the calf problems I had a little over 3 weeks ago along with a some medical testing indicating an unacceptably high level of stress to my systems. I had the testing done at at a place called Optimal Wellness Labs. I'm doing what they call their MAP program. I'm in the early stages. I'll let you know how it goes.
Today's session was very much an Ernst Van Aaken workout. He was a German coach who was developing his training methods beginning in the 1920's. His coaching was kind of 180 degrees from the high intensity methods that are very popular today. However, he did recommend that people inject some higher intensity training into their program...just in very small doses...a pinch here...a pinch there.
Maybe there are not too many people currently using his methods because you're out there so damn long...hee hee.
But he's a very interesting man and, more importantly, he valued health. He wanted people to be both fit and healthy. As time goes on, I see the value of that approach.
